SAFE communities.
 SOUND solutions.

Alberta is a diverse province filled with opportunities to enjoy life. And Albertans care about having the freedom and peace-of mind to do just that.

Safe Communities

Safe Communities brings together provincial and municipal governments, law enforcement agencies, community groups, the business sector and social agencies to ensure Alberta remains a place where we are all free to live, work and thrive.

Through Safe Communities, Alberta has been addressing crime reduction through a balanced approach based on prevention, intervention and enforcement with a firm commitment to partnerships.

The Keeping Communities Safe Task Force report, released in November 2007, set out 31 recommendations for crime reduction and prevention. The Alberta government accepted 29 of the 31 recommendations. Significant progress has been made on implementing these recommendations.
See the Keeping Communities Safe: Three Year Progress Report.

The Alberta Crime Prevention Framework, announced in May 2011, is a direct response to Task Force recommendation 31 to develop a comprehensive long term crime reduction strategy. Safe Communities is an investment in our province's future, and moving forward, the implementation of the Crime Prevention Framework is a primary focus.
