Safe Communities brings together provincial and municipal governments, law enforcement agencies, community groups, the business sector and social agencies to ensure Alberta remains a place where we are all free to live, work and thrive. Alberta has been addressing crime reduction through a balanced approach based on prevention, intervention and enforcement with a firm commitment to partnerships.
Grow Op Free Alberta is the Alberta Government's next step in understanding the issues associated with marijuana grow ops and how they affect Albertans. Stakeholder consultations begin in February 2013. Alberta communities have been working together to develop approaches to address the issues associated with MGOs, however, no province-wide standards or guidelines exist to guide them. The stakeholder consultations will help identify ideas and solutions that will be used to inform the development of recommendations for government.
The Alberta Crime Prevention Framework, announced in May 2011, is a direct response to Task Force recommendation 31 to develop a comprehensive long term crime reduction strategy. Safe Communities is an investment in our province's future, and moving forward, the implementation of the Crime Prevention Framework is a primary focus.
