How much child support should I be paying/receiving each month?

When asked to decide how much child support is payable, the courts can look at the parents’ individual circumstances.  Judges often decide to use the tables in the child support guidelines to set child support amounts, but they can also decide not to use those tables in some cases.  The guidelines discuss when a judge might decide to depart from the table amount, including when children are over 18 and where “undue hardship” is found for either parent.

RP recalculates orders only if the court used the tables to set support, and RP uses the tables when recalculating monthly amounts.  Justice Canada offers the Child Support Online Lookup so you can find the table amount of child support payable for your guideline income.
