Safe Communities Innovation Fund

Providing safe and secure communities is one of the government's priorities.

The $60 million Safe Communities Innovation Fund () was established with a three year mandate and is part of the government's response to reducing and preventing crime in Alberta.

The third and final call to the fund is now complete. To date, 88 pilot projects have been funded through SCIF.

Approved project listing for 2008-2009

In January 2009, communities from across Alberta submitted 115 proposals for  funding. For the first call 30 pilot projects ($19.9 million over 3 years) were approved: 14 community-police partnership projects ($9.8 million over 3 years) and 16 community-based projects ($10.1 million over 3 years).

Approved project listing for 2009-2010

In November 2009, communities from across Alberta submitted 129 proposals for SCIF funding. For the second call 30 pilot projects ($19.9 million over 3 years) were approved: 13 community-police partnership projects ($9.8 million over 3 years) and 17 community-based projects ($10.1 million over 3 years).

In November 2010, communities from across Alberta submitted 131 proposals for  funding. For the third call, 28 pilot projects ($20 million over 3 years) were approved: 7 community-police partnership projects ($5.6 million over 3 years) and 21 community-based projects ($14.4 million over 3 years).
